Taper-Tip Onion: The Onion, A Valentine's Gift
By: Camilla Blossom
Last Valentine’s Day, I found a Walla Walla Sweet Onion washed up on the rocky beach at Viento Park. The onion must have floated down the Columbia River before it washed ashore.
My heart softened for a moment as I picked up the onion. The onion felt like a gift, a gift back to me from Mother Earth. Several years previously, I had gifted Mother Earth with a group of poems and messages of love from a ‘Valentine’s Day for Mother Earth’ event I held at my office and Viento Park.
I took this gift as a sign and started taking the flower essence of Taper-tip Onion, the local wild onion. Onion flower essence is an emotional cleanser that assists the process of peeling away layers of emotions like the layers of an onion so we can find our hidden diamond within. Emotional congestion held in the heart, body, and liver can be relieved.
Onions can also help us cry. Sometimes our best medicine is to shed tears and let each layer of sadness go.
As a child, I remember driving past a garden with flowering onion plants on our way to the swimming pool. I was absolutely captivated by the large, full spherical-shaped flower. The flowers felt magical.
Around Valentine’s Day again, I saw another onion lying by the curb on a busy street. Since onion is showing up again near Valentine’s Day I had to connect the dots. Onion must be a good remedy for healing love relationships and matters of the heart. Including grief.
Maybe onion is The Valentine’s Day remedy? For matters of the heart, sometimes a good cry is the best medicine there is...even when we feel happily loved.
