Yarrow & Vulnerability
By: Camilla Blossom My sweetheart tore apart his achilles tendon at volleyball last week. As if the emotional vulnerability of a deepening relationship had not been enough, seeing him in pain, taking him to the emergency room, surgery, an overnight hospital stay, confinement brought more to the surface for both of us.
In mythology, the achilles tendon is our most easily wounded or vulnerable place. In the legend, Achilles’ mother dipped her son into the bath to strengthen him. He was strengthened and protected all over except for the place where she held his heels-the achilles heel.
After Randy’s achilles was surgercially repaired, I gave him a few drops of yarrow flower essence. Yarrow’s latin name ‘Achillea millefolium’ seemed a perfect match-achillea for the achilles. On taking the drops, we witnessed his body jerk for a moment as his nervous system adjusted and re-aligned itself. A sense of calm resulted.
(With injury, channels of energy are broken. Flower essences actually repair the energetic break so the injury can heal faster.)
